The Cost of Death
by Bryan John Jameson

that’s the other part
of America (the beautiful) —
they’ve put a price
on suffering so that
someone else (you
see) can have a bigger
house, faster car, while
the rest of us wait
our turn to be worth
a buck (at last), sick
and old and broken — raw
material — for a line
item (a whole list of
line items) on a
hospital bill

Bryan John Jameson lives and works (and will likely die) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
