HOW I COPED WITH THE HORROR OF DEATH & LONELINESS DURING THE WORST OF COVID
by Cassandra Gibson

Listen, in the heart of the pandemic, if you had a car, you could drive around in the sparkling dark of the city and listen to Love Again or whatever song felt like yours, and the driving and the music made time feel like something you could touch, because you were moving the same as your thoughts, the same as the endless minutes extending in front of you, wishing for the end. I stayed sane this way, pulling the darkness close like a friend, craving the quiet streets and beating closeness of music as the air whipped through my hair. And me and the streetlights — we prayed to be untouched, to stay alone and alive.
